Facial Bone Reconstruction

Facial Bone Reconstruction or OrthoGnathic Surgery is performed by an OMS surgeon to rectify skeletal and dental irregularities. This includes the minor and major misalignment of jaws and teeth and enhances the aesthetic symmetry and appearance noticeably.

Facial bone reconstruction includes rectification of issues such as:

  • Difficulty in chewing and swallowing
  • jaw joint pain
  • Open bite
  • Unbalanced facial appearance
  • Facial injury
  • Birth defects
  • Receding or protruding lower jaw and chin
  • Sleep apnea

For the procedure, a team of skilled dentist, orthodontist, and OMS work together to outline the surgery procedure for rectification of asymmetric jaw issues. A straight jaw is accomplished in this form of facial surgery. The teeth arches are straightened and placed within each jaw with orthodontic reposition. This ensures that the upper and lower teeth meet properly and function properly.

Orthognathic surgery procedure

During the preparation stage, a complete photographic investigation is performed including various types of x-rays, models, impressions, and radiographs. An outline of the treatment procedure is made before initiating the actual procedure.

For correction the space between the teeth, orthodontic braces are used to align and straighten the teeth before the surgery. During the maxillary surgery, a general anesthesia is used to reduce the discomfort during the surgery. Tiny plates, wires, rubber bands, and screws are used to move the upper jaw and to hold in position. Bone grafts are used to align the lower jaw in position. After the surgery, post-treatment instructions are provided along with a modified diet.
