Types of Implant used for Breast Augmentation :
- Fat Grafting– In this procedure, instead of placing a silicon implant, the Plastic Surgeon will extract fat from an alternate part of your body (liposuction), and after doing so; will infuse it into your breasts, in order to help gain volume. This method is most suited when you need to go for a mild enlargement procedure (1 bra cup size), or a post-op measure for a reconstructive breast cancer surgery.
- Saline implants– these are filled with sterile salt water and it has an outer silicone shell, similar to the silicone implants. The advantage of Saline is that it can be filled after being inserted in the targeted location, making the surgeon in control of the size, and also causing minimal scarring. On the other side, Saline implants feel less natural than silicone implants. In addition, you need to have a fair amount of breast tissue to opt for a Saline implant, else you may see rippling surrounding the outer edges of the breast after the insertion of the implants
- Silicone implants - In Silicone gel-filled breast implants or cohesive gel silicone gel-filled breast implants are filled with elastic, soft gel. They are pre-filled and require a slightly longer incision than saline-filled implants. Cohesive gel silicone gel-filled implants have been used since 1992 and were approved by the FDA in 2012

How to prepare for breast augmentation surgery?
When preparing for breast augmentation, you may need to:
- Do some blood tests.
- Take certain medications or adjust the use of your current medications.
- Stop smoking for about four to six weeks before and after the surgery.
- Avoid taking aspirin and some anti-inflammatory drugs because they may increase bleeding.
- Arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after surgery and stay with you for the first night after surgery.
How is breast augmentation surgery performed?
After preparing you for surgery, the anesthesiologist will administer a general anesthetic, which means you will be sleeping for the procedure.
The surgeon will make an incision in the armpit area to not leave scars on the breast. They will then insert the implant into a pocket under or above the pectoralis muscle. The method of insertion and placement of the implant depends on the type of implant used, the desired level of augmentation, and your body type.
After inserting the implant, the surgeon will repair the incision with stitches and close it with skin adhesive and surgical tape. The incision mark will become less visible over time, and its location under the arm will keep it hidden.
